* Attention members residing in the City of Milwaukee
The Milwaukee Common Council enacted an ordinance that mandates unemployed city residents perform 25% of all hours worked in public works projects & developments that receive $1 million in city assistance. This ordinance created the Milwaukee Residential Preference Program (RPP), and it applies to projects receiving tax incremental financing or (TIF) money in the City, as well.
The RPP Program provides preferential employment on construction projects to those City of Milwaukee residents that are unemployed. Eligibility requires you to provide proof of residency and to have worked less than 1,200 hours in the preceding 12 months, or are currently unemployed and have been for the last 30 consecutive days. Proof of residency is:
- Current utility bill with your name/address
- Valid Drivers License or State ID
- Last year's federal tax form
RPP Certification does not guarantee employment but will provide a potential for your placement. RPP Certification must be done in person at WRTP/BIG STEP, located at 3841 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53208. Call WRTP/BIG STEP at 414-937-3600 to set up an appointment.
Once you are certified, please notify the The Southeast Wisconsin Carpentry Training Center Office at 262-574-6995.
